OUR STORY
Founded in 2022 in Brooklyn, NY, WALTER stands for Working And Learning Together Environmental Recycling. Our founder, Guillaume Charvon, launched WALTER after spending over two decades working with marginalized young people worldwide, from France and Burkina Faso to the United States. Witnessing the challenges these young adults faced and their resilience he saw an opportunity to connect job creation with environmental stewardship. The idea emerged: one person’s waste could become another person’s path to stability. After years running ATD Fourth World’s Story Garden and street libraries for low-income families in Brownsville, Guillaume sought a sustainable solution to provide young adults with career opportunities outside the nonprofit grant cycle. WALTER was born to equip these individuals with marketable skills, financial stability, and a sense of purpose within a mission-driven enterprise.
